Start 2008 with a Clean Slate
Happy 2008 from the Making Memories team. We hope you had a wonderful holiday, and that you, too, are overjoyed at the promise of this new year. Already, our schedules are overflowing with new product releases, appearances at stores and trade shows, and other exciting developments we're not (yet) at liberty to discuss. Sounds like the perfect time to prepare for all this activity by getting organized!

Below are some of our favorite insider tips to help busy people like you manage the coming year with a sense of order. Still, we know that YOUR ideas are usually the best ones out there, so please take a moment to tell us:

  • What is your number one tip for getting and staying organized ?

To participate, please post your replies on our blog today. On Friday, January 11th we'll award a lucky respondent with a new Making Memories Embellishment Center! It's our way to help you start the New Year organized and successful.

Scrapbooking and paper crafting is a real joy, but it also can cause a lot of clutter. I know we all wish our scrapbook rooms could be as clean as this (courtesy of Margie Romney-Aslett). Fortunately with a little help, that is possible.

This month, our favorite designers are offering hints for organizing your most-used (and often most- challenging) supplies. Visit our blog every Thursday and learn new ways to store paint, tools, embellishments, ribbon, stickers, and of course, paper, from respected artists including:

We still have decorations to put away, yet we also know that Valentine's Day will be here before you know it. Fortunately, Making Memories' new Love Story collection started shipping last week to scrapbooking stores around the country. Set hearts aflutter with these delightful, double-sided papers bearing stripes, dots, filigree, and vintage postcard designs. Add a romantic flair with shimmer-topped brads, glittery blossoms, epoxy topped curling tags and pebble clips, glittered alphabet stickers, and oodles of luscious ribbon.

To re-create this frame (lovingly crafted by our own Wendy Anderson), simply:
  1. Cut patterned paper into 13, four-inch squares
  2. Adhere one square and photo to front of frame
  3. Tightly roll paper squares around pencil and secure ends with adhesive
  4. Glue rolls to front of frame and to each other, aligning ends with corner of frame
  5. Add metal charm

To Maggie Holmes, chaos is normal. The busy mom of four young children also serves as a creative designer for Making Memories; she owns her own photography business and last month she was appointed to Creating Keepsakes' Dream Team. We asked her to share some inside secrets for keeping track of project and journaling ideas even when life is a bit out of control.

  • I try to keep a notebook and pen handy at all times in case I come up with an idea. In a pinch, I will also put it in the notes section of my phone, send myself a voicemail, or send my husband a text message (so he can keep a copy of it for me!)
  • I try to keep notes and inspiration ideas in one of four binders: one each for scrapbooking, photography, interior design, and household stuff.
  • I use a separate notebook just for photography ideas. Here I write down new techniques that I've learned or want to try during a future shoot.
  • I live by my daily "to-do" list, where I list my tasks by priority. I include everything on this list - scrapbooking assignments, photography tasks, and household responsibilities. Then I cross things off as I go. This helps me to prioritize and whatever doesn't get done will move up the list for the next day.

No wonder she manages to do it all! We hope these and other tips you'll find all month on our blog help you reach your goals for the New Year. See you next month!
Maggie Holmes
