Getting Organized with Wilna

Wilna Furstenberg, who won "Making Memories Idol" in 2006 and today is one of our awesome designers, offers plenty of inspiration in her creations, and does so now with her own scrap space. We just loved the soft and inviting layout, and asked her to share her tricks on creating the perfect crafting room:

"I read something years ago (yes, i am almost 40) that made such an impression on me: Maretha Maartens wrote: "Make your work space pretty". Since then, I would always add little things that makes my work space pretty (just for me). My husband added some shelves for me in the closet (instead of the hanging space). The chandelier in my scraproom cost $69! If you only have a table in your home dedicated to your hobby, de-clutter it and make it pretty!"

  • I have to be able to find things in 30 seconds.
  • Everything has its place.
  • I want a space that inspires me.
  • Therefore no clutter on top of the desk/drawers allowed.
  • My drawers itself are not super organized; I call it a "working disarray."
  • Lighting is very important. I have three light sources.
  • Clean up after you are done. Every time. (Don't hate me!)
  • Keep your favorite new supplies close in a drawer/box.

Halloween Project: Instant Recall

Have you ever had your 12-year old ask you, "Mom, what was I for Halloween when I was little?" and returned their question with a vacant stare as you tried to recall theirs and their sibling's costumes? (Please tell me I'm not the only one!) If so, this project is just what you need!

Laura Vegas took the school-pictures-through-the-years concept and applied it to this clever layout / hanging art project that showcases your child's costumes year after year. So in case you need to quickly get out of the dog house, as I did, try pairing black-and-white prints with the Spook Alley Halloween collection to showcase those sweet costume memories.

Vintage Findings: Halloween Giveaway!

It's been dusted off, and the cobwebs have been removed, but everything else in the Vintage Findings Halloween Kit looks as though it could have been pulled straight down from great-grandma's attic. This spooky sweet collection of die-cuts, trims and embellishments are just begging to make an appearance on your Halloween invitations, hand-crafted home decor, and scrapbooking layouts to bring some old-time charm to your memories.

So here's our treat to you: Tell us on our blog about your favorite Halloween home decor treat, or link us to a picture of your own invitations or layouts, and we'll select three people at random to receive their own Vintage Findings Halloween Kits just for fun. We can't wait to see what you share with us!!

Our Own Spinoff: Slice Essentials

We're 14 days away from launching our Slice-exclusive newsletter, and wanted to invite you to subscribe by visiting here. So many of our readers want to know how to maximize their Slice's potential, so we are launching our own little "spin off" called "Slice Essentials" on October 27.

And in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we've also teamed with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, which will receive a percentage of all sales of our Think Pink Slice Kit. We'll be honoring those who have survived breast cancer, or who survive a loved one, on our blog all month long. We hope you'll visit us and be as inspired as we have been hearing these touching stories.
